The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a prestigious grant offered by the Embassy of France in Israel. It is designed to support PhD students from Israeli universities who wish to conduct research in a French laboratory for a period ranging from 4 to 9 months. Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen academic ties and promote long-term research partnerships in all scientific fields, from Exact Sciences to Humanities and Social Sciences.

Evaluation criteria
- Academic background excellence: Evaluation of the candidate's outstanding academic achievements and research trajectory.
- Scientific quality of the project: Assessment of the scientific and methodological innovation/originality of the project, methodological rigor, and overall scientific value of the proposed research.
- Scientific quality of the host team: Consideration of the reputation, expertise, and research environment provided by the French host laboratory.
- Contribution to bilateral cooperation: Evaluation of how the project strengthens academic and scientific partnerships between France and Israel.
Eligibility criteria
Eligible
- Citizenship: Must be Israeli citizens.
- Academic Degree: Must hold at least a Master’s degree, or complete the degree requirements prior to departure for France.
- Other Funding: Candidates receiving Israeli funding (such as a PhD/Post-doc scholarship or support from other non-French fellowship sources) are eligible to apply.
Not Eligible
- Dual Citizenship: Dual French-Israeli citizens are not eligible to apply.
- Conflicting Funding: Candidates who receive other French funding (such as a French post-doc grant or another fellowship originating from France) are not eligible to apply.
- Visa Requirement: Candidates who fail to obtain the required visa and legal authorization to stay in France for the entire duration of the fellowship will automatically forfeit the grant.
- Residency Requirement: Candidates not residing in Israel at the time of application are not eligible, as fostering mobility between France and Israel is a core objective of the program.
